Please help me install and set up "Paprika" from veered.org on my own computer or server. What it is: Calorie counter for your phone: type what you ate or snap the label, see today against your goal. It runs on: Any web browser, best on a phone: nothing to install, and the log stays on your device. Claude estimates need your own Anthropic API key. Project page: https://veered.org/calorie-log/ Source code download (zip): https://veered.org/calorie-log/paprika-calorie-log.zip How I'd like you to help: 1. First ask me what you need to know: my operating system and version, my desktop environment if it matters, whether I'm comfortable with the terminal, and any accounts or hardware this project needs. 2. Then take me through it one step at a time. For each command, say briefly what it does, and wait for me to paste back the result before moving on. 3. Before any step that changes system settings, uses sudo, or edits an existing configuration file, tell me, and have me make a backup first. 4. If something fails, help me work out why. If the instructions below don't fit my system, say so rather than guessing. 5. At the end, show me how to check that it works, and how to uninstall it. The project is shared as-is by its author, with no warranty. If we find a problem in the project itself, please help me write a short, clear note I can send to support@veered.org. Here is the project's documentation (README files from the download): ===== README.md ===== # Calorie Log (Paprika): a calorie counter for your phone Paprika is a one-page calorie log. Type what you ate with its calories ("banana 105"), or add your own Anthropic API key and just type "2 eggs and toast" or take a photo of the food or its nutrition label, and Claude fills in the number. The log stays in your browser: no account, no server. ![Today's log with a 7-day chart](docs/screenshot.png) **Use it:** https://veered.org/calorie-log/app/ (add it to your phone's home screen). Or open `index.html` from any web server (`python3 -m http.server`); add `?demo` to the address to see sample entries. ## What it does - **Today's total** against a daily goal you set, with what is left (or over). - **Entries** with a time, the parts Claude counted, and a number you can correct. Tap × twice to delete. - **Photos** (with an API key): a nutrition label is read exactly; a package is named and looked up; a plate is estimated item by item. Type "2 servings" first to count more than one. - **Last 7 days** as a bar chart with the goal line. Tap a day to see it. - **Backup**: download the log as JSON and restore it on another phone. ## Privacy Your log is saved in this browser's local storage and never leaves your device. With an API key, the text you type or the photo you take is sent straight from your browser to Anthropic to be estimated, and the key is kept in this browser only. Barcodes alone are not looked up: the page makes no other network calls. ## Name Paprika is ground red pepper: the spice that turns a plate red. Check the requirements against this system first and tell me what is missing. Ask me before running anything with sudo, installing packages, or changing existing configuration files, and back those files up first. Finish by showing me how to test it and how to uninstall it.
